RESTLESS TIMES

So as therapy goes, I'm not so sure how successful this writing thing is, As the Situation handler, I seem to have accumulated too many situations to handle. Every time I sit down to write something I find that over sharing is too easy to do.
It may be the changing of the seasons but I feel soooo restless. Last weekend, my car never left the driveway and I got in some extra hours of snooze time. I didn't even cook a meal and for those of you who know me well know that's not like me at all.
I day dream about a long walk on the beach and the smell and taste of the salty ocean air, and I dream at night of hitting the lottery and taking care of all my financial woes. Dreams are a good thing.
I can't wait to get away for a weekend to camp. We have wonderful hearty breakfasts. The guys do most of the cooking and I can have a long afternoon nap. I sit with my feet up with a favorite magazine or book. No internet, no cell phone (unless you stand on your head pointing in a specific direction and hold your head just right), no cable or satellite TV. The guys usually work their butts off, then we all watch a movie or hit the hay. A roasted marshmallow or hot dog sounds pretty good to me right now.

Situation Handler

So to get things started lets start with some of the basics that make me who I am.

Rules to live by: (No not Gibb’s Rules (NCIS anyone?) Monica’s Rules)

1. Do what you say you’re going to do.

2. Do it when you say you’re going to do it.

3. Do it right the first time.

Don’t say it if you don’t plan to do it, set a time frame and DO IT. I detest doing anything over again. It takes far less time to do it right the first time then to do it hastily and have to cover ground you’ve already covered.

I have grown tired of others telling me what I want to hear to shut me up so I’ll move on to something else. Don’t try to placate me with a solution that you have no intention of putting into place. This leads me to my newest words to live by, courtesy of my boss’s brother.

If you have a problem that is not EVER going to go away, you no longer have a problem, you have a situation. Simply handle the situation. In the couple weeks since my boss shared these words of wisdom, I have become the situation handler.

It’s really funny how changing what we call it has somehow empowered me to move ahead. I don’t know how long this can last, but my stress level has fallen to the basement level and so far I haven’t experienced any flare ups. I only wish my co-workers and friends could benefit from this simple mindset.

And it begins...

I had the pleasure of meeting a very interesting man in the fall/winter of 2010. Although I had only just met him, we talked for a long time. During the course of our conversation he said he had been keeping a journal for many years. My only experience with keeping a journal was in high school. A requirement by my English teacher. I don't remember much about my first journal I only remember a close friend’s heartache as she over-shared about her crush on one of our teachers and the pain this caused when the information hit the hallways of GHS. (Lesson to be learned about over-sharing)

I consulted my dear cousin whose blog I have followed since she started. She offered encouragement to forge ahead. Although I work in the publishing field, I am not a professional writer. Please don’t judge my writing or spelling. I invite comments, advice, or different points of view if you’re willing to share.

And it Begins… I call this therapy because my hope is that by expressing in words my concerns or my sometimes blinding fury with co-workers, family or just about anyone, that I find peace and understanding. It’s kind of like a write it and let it go philosophy.
